THE LEGEND OF THE BLACK STAG
Donky the Domesticated S2Donk
Donky the Domesticated S2Donk
Once long ago, there lived a Pokemon trainer by the name of Katie Pot. In the time period of this story, Katie was about 22 years old and was a cheerful, bright and very intelligent young woman. This girl loved Pokemon so dearly that she had been studying them since she was a toddler and by the age of 22 she had learned the appearance, type, moves, cries and much more of every Pokemon ever discovered at the time.
It was on a cool summer evening of the last week of May when Katie’s life changed forever. Katie would often take walks to clear her mind from any stress of the previous hours and to meditate. She loved walking in the woods especially to watch all of the wild Pokemon in their natural habitat. On this specific night Katie was doing just that when she heard a strange cry from somewhere in her area of the woods. She stopped immediately because she could tell that the cry was from a Pokemon in danger, but she also stopped because she was puzzled over the fact that she had never heard this kind of cry before. It was high pitched yet soft and had a bleating kind of sound to it like that of a Mareep, but it was obviously not a Mareep. Katie listened for the cry again and, after some seconds of waiting, she got a response when the cry sounded again. She jogged off in the direction of the call and she had not travelled far when she stumbled upon a tiny, injured Pokemon under some bushes. This Pokemon resembled one like Stantler, but it differed greatly from a Stantler because of even just its appearance. It was a fawn like Pokemon that was a handsome dark brown color, with a very soft and well-groomed coat. On its head were tiny budding points that would assumedly grow into antlers later on in its life and between the points was a lock of hair that flopped over its right eye. The markings on its coat looked like a suit that a man would wear, complete with a nice red tie and all of it made the creature look very dapper. Its spots, belly fur and tail fur were a nice lavender color. Katie was briefly awestruck by discovering this new glorious specimen, but she quickly snapped back to reality and realized that the Pokemon was hurt. Its head was bleeding a bit and it looked like it had fallen from ground of higher elevation. She did not dare to think of catching the Pokemon right then and there, it would be too cruel, she thought. So Katie scooped up the little youngster and ran back to town.
Upon returning to town she rushed to a Poke-Center as fast as she could and, in return, the Pokemon got special medical treatment. While the little creature slept through its treatment many people came and visited the Poke-Center when they heard that a strange Pokemon had been discovered, and everyone agreed that a Pokemon like this had never been seen before, so they considered it to be a new species. Since Katie saved the Pokemon’s life, it only made sense that she was allowed to name it. Katie had always wanted to name a Pokemon in the honor of her grandfather who lived with the name of ‘Stuart Pot’ before his death. According to Katie, Mr. Pot was her greatest inspiration and taught her more than half of the things she learned about Pokemon in her earlier years. Because of this, Katie decided to put the word ‘fawn’ in between the first part of the name ‘Stuart’ and the last part of the name ‘Pot,’ and so her new friend lived by the name of ‘Stufawnt.’
Katie and Stufawnt made friends very quickly – Stufawnt was always reminded of how Katie would never try to cause harm to him in any way, which contributed to Stufawnt’s gained trust of Katie. Eventually Stufawnt trusted Katie so much that she was able to capture him in a simple Pokeball. Although she had captured him, Katie never thought it was totally fair to keep any Pokemon locked up inside of a ball all the time, so she let Stufawnt live in a Pokemon Sanctuary down the road from her residence so that he would have free roaming time constantly and still be close to her at all times.
Not long after their friendship was totally set in stone, Stufawnt went through a very strange occurrence. When Katie arrived at the sanctuary one morning the staff of the place rushed up to her screaming that something was wrong with him. She dashed out to the backyard where the sanctuary resident Pokemon lived and skidded to a stop when she saw a bright blue figure eating some hay. She watched as the thing lifted its head up and blinked at her with innocent eyes, acting like nothing was wrong at all. Katie’s panic swept away immediately when she saw him look at her. It was her Stufawnt. He had evolved! Stunned, she stepped up to the Pokemon and observed him. Stufawnt’s ‘suit’ and brown coat were molting and revealing a fuzzy, periwinkle-esque color of fuzz. The little red tie that went with his ‘suit’ was being replaced by an emerging red collar. His antlers had extended into thin blue rods with little spikes, and on his hooves tiny white square markings had appeared. The Pokemon’s overall figure got slimmer and his height had increased from that of his previous stage. With the evolution of any Pokemon comes the change of its name, so Katie referred to him as Stublu in this stage. Luckily, the change of Stufawnt’s appearance did not change his love for his trainer.
Some months later, Stublu underwent another evolution, which was expected because his coat was still in the molting process, but what was not expected was the extremely curious outcome of the evolution. The basics of it all were that his coat had fully molted to leave him a sky blue color all around (the periwinkle tint had lightened with his aging) with dark blue chest, belly and tail fur, the fact that he had gotten taller and slimmer, and how his antlers had gotten bigger. However, his antlers had gotten much bigger because they started growing enormous vuvuzelas – a red vuvuzela on the left antler and a yellow one on the right. Stublu’s whole tail had become a fuzzy dark blue vuvuzela like his antlers!! The markings on his hooves that were originally little white squares had enlarged to show the pattern of piano keys! There was no question to anybody that this new stage was meant to be musical. Upon hearing the news that her Pokemon had evolved yet again Katie visited the sanctuary with great excitement. When she arrived, the new Stublu was eating his breakfast with his back turned to her. She went out to the pasture to greet him and gently put a hand on his back. This startled the Pokemon, however, and he spun around rapidly to stare at her with huge white eyes. It surprised Katie and onlookers too, though, because they did not expect Stublu to start blasting polka-esque music from his vuvuzela antlers and tail. Stublu’s tunes made Katie laugh because the music sounded… dinky and… donky. It was bizarre but adorable and she loved it! After staring at her with his white eyes for some seconds, the Pokemon calmed down and sighed in relief, the white in his orbs fading to solid black. Confused as to why his eyes had changed, Katie decided to look him over again and discovered that there were two dents in Stublu’s head next to either of his eyes. She figured that he may have accidentally fallen or bumped into something in the night that caused his eyes to fracture, the poor thing! Unfortunate as it was, though, those two dents contributed to the Pokemon’s new name – ‘S2Donk’ – ‘S2’ sounding like ‘Stu,’ the first part of the original name of ‘Stuart,’ ‘2D’ because there were 2 dents in his head and ‘Donk’ because of the funny music he emitted. Katie gave him the nickname ‘Donky,’ a parody of the species of animal called the ‘Donkey’ that related to the Donk-esque sounds that S2Donk played.
With the final evolution brought an explosion of attention from Pokemon lovers around the world. People were astounded and fascinated by the qualities of this amazing Pokemon – the bizarre appearance and the hysterical sounds that he made was so exciting! All of this inspired Katie to work with Donky and train him to interact with other people so that they could experience the joy that she got to experience by being with Donky on a daily basis. She taught the Pokemon etiquette and fun tricks that would impress those who came to observe him. Donky learned quickly and enjoyed his training, and it was not long until he was a people’s favorite worldwide. He was on magazines and newspapers, he was featured on television shows and interviews, he led multiple parades, and he was even asked for hoof-autographs from tourists that came to visit him. Because he shed the vuvuzela parts of his antlers yearly, the red and yellow vuvuzelas were sold to very few Pokemon museums for a fortune a piece. Donky loved humans and would gladly give ‘Donky Rides’ to admiring children. Despite receiving overwhelming fame over the course of many years, Donky always remained calm and gentle and humble, and Katie always remained his best friend in the world, no matter how many great people he met.
One fateful day in Donky’s life, a new resident was admitted to the sanctuary that he lived in. While eating his morning meal one foggy morning, Donky observed with great curiosity as a trainer was escorted into Donky’s pasture by two sanctuary workers. With no intent on bothering Donky, the trainer went about his business and took out a Pokeball. From it he released a Pokemon that Donky had never seen before, causing his big black eyes to get very wide. She was, in Donky’s opinion, an absolutely stunning creature with colors of bright blues, pinks and yellows. She was laced in stripes all over her body and her majestic tail and manes flowed in the morning breeze with astounding beauty. The Pokemon was a tender Stripletale. Donky froze and got kind of weak in his knees as he raised his head high to get a closer look at her, his eyes like saucers. It was like he was witnessing the discovery of some kind of goddess. The Stripletale cautiously smelled around its area and took gentle steps, looking around the sanctuary. Then, she turned her head and caught sight of the S2Donk nearby (the only S2Donk in existence) and froze, locking eyes with him. The trainer and staff chuckled and watched the sight of the awestruck Donky admire the new resident. After she had (or at least tried to) take him all in, she turned on the haunches and bolted out towards the farther land of the sanctuary. Donky sighed and wished that he wasn’t terrifying looking to other Pokemon.
Although the first meeting between Donky and Stripletale was unfortunate, Stripletale learned, like all of the others who came to the sanctuary, to tolerate Donky and eventually she became quite good friends with him! Donky always wanted to be around her and enjoyed her presence very much and she felt the same way about Donky. Their relationship was beautiful as time went on because, the more they bonded, the more they realized that they were falling in love with each other (though, technically, Donky had loved Stripletale since the first moment he laid eyes on her).
Indeed, the relationship between the two Pokemon lovers was sweet in the eyes of most people, but for some the relationship was becoming more of a problem with the passing of time. Katie admired Donky and Stripletale’s relationship at the start, but after a while she started to notice that Donky was beginning to act different. He always spent time right by Stripletale and at times he would not come to Katie like he had always done before. Sometimes he would even run away from Katie when she came to greet him and go to the mare instead. On days that Katie did manage to get ahold of him and take him out and/or away from the sanctuary, Donky would always be distracted and off his game because he would worry about Stripletale being alone at the sanctuary. At times he would misbehave and try to get away from Katie so that he could return to Stripletale. Most shocking of all, Donky had become aggressive of anyone that would come near Stripletale. It was often that Stripletale’s trainer could not get even remotely close to his beloved Pokemon without Donky threatening him. Katie worried about Donky and sometimes even became afraid of her best friend. All this time she knew that Stripletale was causing him to act this way, and in the end she had no choice but to talk to Stripletale’s trainer and ask him to transfer her to another place that was far away from her S2Donk. The trainer agreed and they decided to arrange Stripletale’s departure as soon as possible.
Ironically, it was another foggy morning, much like the one when Stripletale first arrived at Donky’s sanctuary, when Stripletale was due to sign out of her and Donky’s current home. Katie arrived early that morning to feed Donky his breakfast. Donky found this quite odd because she never came to feed him at an hour like 5 AM, but he loved his food too much to resist coming to get it at any time of the day. He drowsily left his place beside Stripletale so that he could let her sleep in peace while he ate. As he bent down to eat, Katie looked down at him sadly and knew that her S2Donk would not like what was going to happen. She gently ran her fingers through his wiry mane and sighed, telling him that she was sorry. Donky wasn’t really listening because he was enjoying his food, but there was a bad feeling deep down in his Poke-gut. Suddenly, Donky heard the opening of a Pokeball. He shot his head up and turned around, heaving a snort, and his wide black eyes snapped white when he saw Stripletale being returned to her Pokeball by her trainer. The S2Donk bleated out loudly and went trampling over to the trainer angrily. Unfortunately for Donky, he didn’t reach the trainer in time and he escaped out of the pasture. Donky reared and threw a fit on the other side of the fence, outraged and terrified, crying louder than Katie had ever heard him cry before. He sounded desperate – like he was losing the love of his life, which he was. He snuffed and closed his eyes, then lowered his head and snapped them open, glaring white. Rearing again, the S2Donk opened his mouth and it glowed orange, then he slammed all four hooves on the ground and furiously fired an intense hyper beam at the wall of the sanctuary, breaking it all to pieces. Katie stared and watched, terrified, having never seen her Pokemon in this state before. She then broke and ran towards him, trying to calm him down, but Donky didn’t even acknowledge her as he tore out of the opening he created. He galloped as fast as his lanky limbs could possibly carry him towards the car that Stripletale’s trainer was getting in. Crying out, he opened his mouth to fire an attack, but he had to re-charge and there was nothing he could do when the trainer saw him in the rear view mirror and plowed out of the area as fast as he possibly could. For a while, the sad S2Donk chased after the vehicle, but it was no use – he got weak quickly and his species was not built for running with speed and/or endurance. Donky stopped, heaving as he watched his beloved Stripletale drive into the morning haze. He had never been so devastated in his entire life. Having seen most of the incident, many people and trainers and staff workers had come to try and help calm the Pokemon down. They slowly and cautiously neared the wild S2Donk, careful to not get too close. Katie moved through the people and ran out towards her Pokemon, crying softly and begging him to calm down. This time, S2Donk heard her as she approached and listened. He twitched his ears backwards to hear her words. His black nose twitched a bit and he took in his trainer’s scent. Katie stopped some feet away from him for safe measure and she watched him in silence, waiting for his reaction. After some seconds the Pokemon slowly turned around, and upon doing so, disturbed many onlookers. There was something about the look in S2Donk’s face that was extremely unnerving. He glared icily at his trainer with white eyes, the rims of them black and severe. What was especially creepy about Donky was that his vuvuzela-antlers were lowly emitting music, but the music was not jolly or donky as it normally would have been before now; the music had a dark sound to it… it was melancholy and upsetting and just plain strange… and what was even worse about the tune was that it started getting scratchy and squeaky before skipping and starting from the beginning again… kind of like a broken record player. All while he emitted the song, the S2Donk glared deep into his trainer’s eyes. There was something in him that screamed out that Katie was the reason that his Stripletale left and that he couldn’t trust his ‘best friend’ anymore. Slowly, he stepped forward. Katie didn’t like this at all and, for the first time in her life, she was afraid of her Pokemon. When he started walking, she turned and started running. Donky snapped and streaked to his trainer, his speed not needing effort to dominate the human’s, and he rammed her to the ground with his headgear. People around them screamed and the police were called. Katie screamed and flailed and feared for her life as her beloved Donky prepared to take it. Donky had finally finished re-charging… just in time to hyper beam his trainer to oblivion. Opening his mouth, he prepared to fire. The last thing that Katie Pot saw was the orange glow behind the gap in her S2Donk’s teeth.
After ridding the world of Katie, S2Donk looked around at the humans. The humans. Those monsters. He sprung off of the hole he had just blown in the ground and rampaged around, bashing into anyone he came across. Before he had the chance to injure too many innocent people, the S2Donk was taken down by a first bullet, falling to the hard ground and flailing in a panic. A second bullet from the same policeman’s gun cut off the S2Donk’s eerie tune as it took the world’s beloved Donky to his death.
Shortly after this incident, Stripletale unexpectedly delivered a pokemon that was not of her species at her new home: the world’s second known Stufawnt. Stripletale passed away from exhaustion after successfully delivering the Stufawnt. Stripletale’s trainer immediately released the Stufawnt into the wild, not wanting to risk raising a potential disaster.
Despite the fact that this incident occurred many years ago, it has been said that a dark mysterious being that is believed to be the spirit of Donky still roams the woods of various regions today… It is referred to as ‘The Black Stag’ because witnesses who have sighted this phenomenon recall it having the form of a livestock-esque Pokemon, like a Stantler, because it has a large set of antlers. It has a pair of glowing white eyes that never close or blink. When the entity walks, it hunches over and slowly lumbers. Witnesses accuse the being of being guilty of stalking and staring at people for as long as it takes them to become scared and run. It is said that the Black Stag teleports because it always appears in the most random of places and when you look away it will disappear again. Some people recall hearing disturbing music shortly before or immediately seeing the spirit. One trainer shakes while remembering his experience: “When you hear the music. That’s when you start running.” The theory to The Black Stag’s existence is that it is legitimately the ghost of Donky who is still looking for Stripletale, because he is most commonly sighted when the area is foggy (like the days that Stripletale came into his life and left his life) and is most commonly seen by trainers who have Pokeballs with Stripletales in them on hand….
